Strawberries

Growing - Harvesting

The number of strawberry plants that can be planted per 1000 square meters are 5000 to 7000. Intensive growing and the increasing production needs, encouraged us to grow strawberry plants as annuals, which are replanted every year. This way more plants can be planted per 1000 square meters and higher organoleptic quality is provided.

You should harvest strawberries when they are ripe to pick (red). The fruit should be harvested when the surface is dry, free of moisture and one should be careful not to hurt the young fruits while picking. The strawberry harvest season begins in November and lasts until the end of June.

Strawberries are grown in Etoloakarnania and Achaia but 90% of the annual production is sourced from the area of Manolada, Prefecture of Ilia.

Strawberry is a representative export fruit. Nearly 70% of domestic production is exported. Exports have triggered in recent years greater productivity.

Strawberries are consumed either fresh or they are used in confectionery for jams, liqueurs and conserves. Strawberries are rich in vitamin C.
